This is a small town in Afyon Emirdağ. The history if this town goes back to ancient times. The city was called as Aura in Hittite Time. Morium is the classical age name of this town. It was full independent during Hellenic age and during roman period it was semi independent. During this period bronze coins have been printed in the name of the emperor. The importance of this town has been increased in the Byzantium period and became the second biggest city after Istanbul. The historical digging studies have been started by Prof. Dr. R.M. Harrison from Oxford University in 1988 and aftrerwards Dr. Christopher Lighhtgoot overtook this duty. The travertine which has been used during construction of Amorium (govenment houses, schools, roads, theaters etc.) has been supplied by Afyon Traverten, Afyon Silver Traverten mines which belong to DEMMER INC. The right for using the name of Amorium is given to Suayp Demirel with decision given by T.R. Ministry of Culture, Statues and Museums General Administration.
